ORIGIN & VARIETIES
Cacao trees grow just around the equator, and are found beyond South America today, stretching to West Africa, Asia and the Philippines
The cacao tree originated in the humid tropical regions of Central America. It has been consumed for over 5000 years by pre-Columbian civilizations. Cacao beans were introduced to Spain by Spanish conquests. Dutch missionaries planted cacao treeson the Gold Coast in West Africa in early 19th century.

Cacao is harvested from throughout the year depending on the variety of the trees and the location.
